Most of the real estate in Germany is old and therefore not
even close to being up to date in terms of its energy
balance. Tear it down? Absolutely not. Old houses often have
a fantastic appearance, are listed as historic monuments or
are simply beautiful. How can these buildings in particular
be upgraded in terms of energy technology so that the annual
electricity, gas or oil costs do not ruin the house owner or
tenant? Are there methods of using regenerative energy
sources, such as the sun, in such a way that even old
buildings can profit from them to the maximum without their
classic appearance going to the dogs?
The answer is: YES!
Anyone who wants to bring an old building into the solar age
can do so quite easily by using solar thermal energy. The
incident sunlight is not converted into electricity, but
into heat and stored within the building. A simple water
tank makes this possible and thus reduces heating costs to a
minimum. Heating costs usually account for more than 80% of
annual energy requirements. It therefore makes more than
sense to start here.
The described technique of converting solar energy into heat
at the building and using water quasi as a "battery" is
technically simple and can deliver even more efficient
results for new buildings if the builder includes the sun
already during the planning phase. Buildings planned in this
way provide the most heating energy when it is most urgently
needed, namely in winter when the sun is low.
Before finding such a progressively planned building in
Germany, one has to search for a long time. This must
change. Already to make the hunger for oil and gas and the
wars, which are led for it, superfluous.
KenFM met in the format THE MAKERS (DIE MACHER) Ullrich
Hintzen from the Chemnitz FASA AG. As a pioneer in solar
thermal energy, he showed us how sustainable the
construction industry and housing could have long been. The
knowledge and the technology are there. Why has the mass
media not yet succeeded in making this simple technology
known to a broad public? Do the big energy monopolies play a
role here? KenFM does the job that the mainstream media
successfully avoid or allow themselves to avoid. KenFM shows
how easy it would be in just a few years to make housing
energy neutral even in regions with long winters. The
investment will pay for itself in a few years because oil,
gas, coal and uranium are not getting cheaper. The wars that
are waged over these energy sources have to be added to the
price. It is time to turn to the sun. This undermines
existing power structures and that is exactly what is
overdue. True democracy needs decentralized energy
production. We just have to want it.>
